Games Library

The Ponies specialize in short-form improv comedy which centers around creating scenes through the context of games and exercises. Included in our library of games are familiar favorites and original creations. We're always updating our collection too!

Take a look to see how each game is played and check out our guide on how to get your suggestions into the show!

Hotel

Hotel

One actor plays the receptionist at a hotel and interacts with all the incoming characters. Each actor that enters picks their own character and what they’re doing at the hotel. The crux of the game revolves around how each of the characters interacts with one another.

In the Cards

In the Cards

Six actors come on stage and are given a playing card at random. One actor receives a "joker" card. Each of the actors then becomes a character attending a murder mystery-like dinner. The host gives each character an opportunity to introduce themselves. Throughout the scene, each character will mysteriously die depending on the card they drew. For instance, if the value of the card is low, an actor should die relatively early in the scene. If the card value is a face card, they should try to die later. Once only two actors remain, the actor who drew the "joker" card reveals how they were able to dispatch the other actors before claiming their last victim, the actor with the highest value card. One by one the actors then reveal their cards to see if they were killed in the proper order.

Infomercial

Infomercial

At the start of the game, the host asks the audience for a problem they're facing. Two actors then begin a scene as if they are on an infomercial advertising a product that's made to assist with the problem. The actors can then invite other actors to come in as testimonials, first-time users, or people who have tried other solutions. This is a freeform game where actors can use their creativity to develop characters and scenes as long as they fit the context of the infomercial.

Interrogation

Interrogation

One actor leaves the room and the host gets the three suggestions from the audience. The two other actors are cops who are good and bad. The cops give hints to the criminal so they can guess the three suggestions, and the audience helps by snapping when the criminal is close and clapping when the criminal gets it. The game is over when the criminal confesses to everything correctly.

Job Interview

Job Interview

One actor, playing someone interviewing for a job, leaves the room. The other actor, the job interviewer, is then told what position they are hiring for by the audience. Once assigned, the other actor returns and the job interview begins with the interviewer dropping hints as to what the job the person is applying for is. It goes until the actor applying gets the position and the interviewer either hires them or not.

Know-It-All

Know-It-All

All the actors join together in a line. The host takes questions from the audience and the actors have to answer them by going down the line, speaking one word at a time.

Last Line, First Line

Last Line, First Line

Actors are divided into teams of two. Each team receives their own suggestion for a scene that they will act out. One team begins their scene and at any point, one of the other teams can call out “Freeze” when they hear a line of dialogue they’d like to use for their scene. The scenes are totally unrelated and the actor taking the line of dialogue, they may change the inflection or tone, but the words must remain the exact same. This continues until all scenes have played out or all teams use the same line of dialogue for their scene.

Law and Order

Law and Order

Two actors portray lawyers, two actors are the defendant and plaintiff, and one actor is the judge. First the plaintiff’s lawyer presents the case before the judge allows for the defendant to make their opening argument. Lawyers then take turns making their points before the judge allows them to question witnesses, which the lawyers may call from the remaining bench of actors. The game ends after the judge hears closing arguments, decides who is guilty, and sentences them.

Living Scenery

Living Scenery

Two actors perform a scene however, they don’t have any props. The other two actors or volunteers fill in for the props to be used by the actors. This is a very physical game with a lot of humor coming from ridiculous uses of other people becoming the "props."

Marriage Counselor

Marriage Counselor

One actor plays a marriage counselor and leaves the room while the audience offers the remaining two actors (the couple) each a problem they’re seeking treatment for (examples: obsessive cleaning, narcolepsy, fear of birds, cries during RomComs, etc.) and one shared problem between the two (examples: pet destroys furniture, child won’t stop cursing at school, annoying neighbors, etc.) When the marriage counselor returns they will try to give out advice even though they have no idea what the problems are. As the scene continues, the marriage counselor will try to guess. Once they have the solution, they offer their professional advice on how to fix the problem.
